In honor of World Oceans Day, Ocean StorySLAM invites the public to listen in as nine local storytellers share meaningful and thought-provoking moments connected to the ocean. From encounters with marine wildlife to reflections on coastal life, each story offers a unique lens on how the ocean continues to influence lives and communities.
Clean Miami Beach: World Oceans Day Beach Cleanup - Sunday, June 8th @ 101 Ocean Drive
Contribute to ocean preservation and help maintain the cleanliness of Miami Beach's coastline by participating in Clean Miami Beach. The event will provide all necessary cleanup supplies, including: sanitized gardening gloves, buckets, bags, and pickers. Participants should wear closed-toed shoes, especially for dune cleaning, use reef-safe sun protection, and bring their own water in reusable bottles. A refill station will be available, but plastic bottles will not be provided.
Father's Day Fishing Tournament - Saturday, June 14th @ Graham Dairy Lake
Spend quality time with dad this Father’s Day at the annual fishing tournament in Miami Lakes. Hosted by the Town of Miami Lakes and its Cultural Affairs Committee, this tournament offers children the chance to bond with their fathers while competing to catch the largest fish. Live bait will be provided to the first 30 participants, but attendees must bring their own fishing equipment, including poles, lines, and hooks. This event is free for residents of the Town of Miami Lakes.
NMB Juneteenth Experience - Thursday, June 19th @ Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater
Presented by the City of North Miami Beach in collaboration with the Black Professionals Network, the event marks Juneteenth with a full evening of family-friendly programming that honors African American culture and commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. This year’s theme, Boots on the Ground, underscores collective action and cultural pride. Highlights include a step show and drumline competition, live performances from local Greek sororities, food vendors offering a variety of cuisines and activities suitable for all ages. Admission is free and open to the public.
Miami Immersive Intensive - Thursday, June 26th - Sunday, June 29th @ Multiple locations
The Miami Immersive Intensive invites performers, directors, producers, and writers to gather for a hands-on, four-day experience in the heart of Downtown Miami. Participants can expect a dynamic, interactive environment that moves beyond traditional workshops, offering practical insights and creative challenges. Sessions will be held at various locations, including the Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus and other downtown spaces.
